Career Advancement Initiatives One of BMC's missions is to help underrepresented filmmakers get hired. For our Advanced Fellows, we help open doors to those who can hire them. For our new filmmakers, we provide a foundation to help set them on the right path to a frutiful career.
Directing Actors Lab
The fellows selected for the Directing Actors Lab are professional actors and directors who will spend the year working on their craft and honing in on what makes them unique. Veteran industry guest teachers will share their wisdom and techniques that keep them at the top of their games.
Next Level: Breakthrough
The Next Level: Breakthrough Initiative is a thoughtfully curated group of BIPOC, each with a strong body of work, highly recommended by industry professionals, poised for their first episodic credits. The BI program is designed to champion those efforts and elevate the talented group of creatives to the next level. These are the undiscovered, future TV writers and directors. The program is open to men and women.
Emerging Actors Initiative
Emerging Actors Initiative is for actors who have had several leading or strong supporting roles, but haven’t been able to break through to the next level. By working with industry mentors and our First Frame Initiative, the selectees will not only hone their craft but create connections to further their careers. During the 8 month program actors will meet and work with casting directors, filmmakers, and producers who are in the position to hire them; as well as learn what it takes to work at the highest levels of the industry.
First Frame Initiative
First Frame Initiative is designed to help new filmmakers cut years off the path to achieving their dreams. Part education on the biz, part hands on (working with actors, filming reel material), fellows in this initiative will end the 8 month program better equipped to take their careers to the next level.
Filmmakers who have directed 3 shorts or less are eligible to submit to this program.
Next Level: Feature Directors
Next Level: Feature Directors is designed to elevate and polish undiscovered and underrepresented female-identifying storytellers, poised for the next stage in feature directing. In 2021, a select and professionally recommended roster of women-identifying directors – each with a strong body of work, distinctive style, and voice, will form the year-long initiative. Selectees will learn from industry advisers, enhance their creative brand, and connect with partners and champions to prepare themselves and their work as anticipated faces of tomorrow.
Filmmaker Advancement Initiative
BMC’s Filmmaker Advancement Initiative is a curated group of filmmakers and artists on the verge of breaking through to the next level of their careers. They will receive a full year of support to help them hone their craft, expand their network, and complete their next big project. The fellowship is made up of writers, directors, actors, cinematographers, and crew.
